A new Barbie movie is premiering on July 21, 2023 and as self-proclaimed movie fanatics and lovers of all things pink, we are beside ourselves with excitement. We're pretty sure this is going to be the movie of the summer, if not the movie of the year, and we're counting down the days until we're able to see it in theaters. After a few first looks and casting announcements, we finally have an official teaser for the film and it promises to be as self-aware, colorful, and fun as we hoped.

Dua Lipa is Part of The Barbie Movie's Soundtrack
That's right – pop icon Dua Lipa is bringing her talents to the film's soundtrack in addition to acting in the movie. In a teaser video she posted, we get a brief cameo of Dua stepping out of her pink heels, Barbie-style, as well as a close-up shot of her blowing a kiss to the camera. Based on the sneak peek, we can expect a *totally* disco vibe from the new track – which is announced to come out on Friday, May 26.

The first thing we're thinking after watching this trailer is how much the actors really do look like Barbie dolls! The costuming might just become one of our favorite things about the film (not to mention the iconic opening sequence à la 2001: A Space Odyssey).

What's The Big Deal About This Barbie Movie?
In a 2021 interview with British Vogue, Robbie says that while playing Barbie comes with both baggage and nostalgia, "people generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t...’”
Finding a way to balance adulthood with finding comfort in the things from our childhood (a champagne brunch at the American Girl store anyone?), there's something to be said for getting in touch with your inner child.
