A new Barbie movie is premiering on July 21, 2023 and as self-proclaimed movie fanatics and lovers of all things pink, we are beside ourselves with excitement. We're pretty sure this is going to be the movie of the summer, if not the movie of the year, and we're counting down the days until we're able to see it in theaters. After a few first looks and casting announcements, we finally have an official teaser for the film and it promises to be as self-aware, colorful, and fun as we hoped.

The Newest Images From The Film
Barbie costume designer Jacqueline Durran talked to British Vogue about her work on the film, as well as the fact they only had 11 weeks (!!) to make all of the costumes.
“Barbie is a very useful way to look at different ideas of femininity: what that means, who owns it, and who it’s aimed at,” Durran says in the interview. Some of Margot Robbie's looks are sassy (like her cowgirl outfit) and some are sweet (like her gingham dress), but all of them play a larger role in the film.
"One aspect of the film is self-discovery," Durran continues. "We were able to choose elements of Barbie fashion that were appropriate for those scenes that also gave a subtle nod to her internal journey.”
On June 12, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling announced they'll visit eight cities as a part of the Barbie world tour! We can't wait to see what kinds of outfits they wear.

After realizing that her dream life isn't quite as dreamy as she thought, Barbie sets off — roller blades and Ken in tow — to learn "the truth about the universe."

That's right – pop icon Dua Lipa is bringing her talents to the film's soundtrack in addition to acting in the movie. In a teaser video she posted, we get a brief cameo of Dua stepping out of her pink heels, Barbie-style, as well as a close-up shot of her blowing a kiss to the camera. Based on the sneak peek, we can expect a *totally* disco vibe from the new track.
The rest of the lineup for Barbie The Album was announced on May 25 and includes names like Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, and even Ryan Gosling!

The first thing we're thinking after watching this trailer is how much the actors really do look like Barbie dolls! The costuming might just become one of our favorite things about the film (not to mention the iconic opening sequence à la 2001: A Space Odyssey).

A lot of previous Barbie movies place the iconic doll in fairy tales or navigating high school, but the Greta Gerwig film (which is set to premiere in July 21, 2023) takes a whole new approach. The plot focuses on Margot Robbie's Barbie, who gets expelled from Barbieland and goes off to explore the real world.

What's The Big Deal About This Barbie Movie?
In a 2021 interview with British Vogue, Robbie says that while playing Barbie comes with both baggage and nostalgia, "people generally hear ‘Barbie’ and think, ‘I know what that movie is going to be,’ and then they hear that Greta Gerwig is writing and directing it, and they’re like, ‘Oh, well, maybe I don’t...’”
Finding a way to balance adulthood with finding comfort in the things from our childhood (a champagne brunch at the American Girl store anyone?), there's something to be said for getting in touch with your inner child.
