5 Fall Fabrics and How To Wear Them

Fall vibes are here. You've got your seasonal candles, Meg Ryan movies, and a few autumnal cocktail recipes queued up, but what shall you wear? No season has a mood quite like this one, and there are a few fabrics that almost seem like they were made for the season: denim, corduroy, flannel, cashmere, and tweed. Below, we've rounded a few pieces made of our favorite fall fabrics to mix into your wardrobe.

Denim

Denim may as well be fall's neutral. The heavy fabric (although not always) is perfect for cooler days and chilly nights. It can be dressed up or down, going from a pumpkin patch to a beer garden to a candlelit dinner party in one day.

Madewell Cali Demi-Boot Jeans in Glenside Wash ($138)

Everlane The Curvy Cheeky Jean ($88 $26)

& Other Stories Belted Mini Dress ($99)

Old Navy Extra High-Waisted Non-Stretch Balloon Jeans ($50 $40)

Reformation Nava Denim Two Piece Set ($248)

Old Navy High-Waisted Split-Front Cut-Off Non-Stretch Jean Maxi ($40 $30)

Corduroy

Corduroy belongs to fall, really. It's soft yet substantial but not too heavy, making it ideal for cool but not quite cold days. Plus, you can find it in just about every color imaginable.

Anthropologie Pilcro The Icon Flare Corduroy Jeans ($148)

Madewell x Banjanan Corduroy Franklin Dress ($370)

H&M Corduroy Pants ($35)

Reformation Cassidy Long Corduroy Jumpsuit ($228)

Free People Ziggy Cord Shortalls ($108)

Flannel

Soft and warm and — more often than not plaid — flannel is a falling leaf on the first chilly Saturday. It's the ultimate casual, cozy fabric that's usually made of super-soft, medium-weight cotton that has a fuzzy feel.

J.Crew Classic-Fit Shirt in Mint Plaid Flannel ($98)

Uniqlo Soft Flannel Dress ($50)

Quince SuperSoft Fleece Wide Leg Pants ($40)

H&M Flannel Shopper ($50)

Urban Outfitters Out From Under Frankie Flannel Jumpsuit ($59)

Old Navy Long-Sleeve Plaid Flannel Boyfriend Tunic Shirt ($36)

Cashmere

Cashmere is a type of wool that's traditionally made from the undercoat of a cashmere goat. It's super-soft and very breathable, making it ideal for both indoors and out in the fall.

J.Crew Cashmere Classic-Fit Crewneck Sweater ($128)

Garnet Hill Women's Cashmere Socks ($36)

Anthropologie Maeve Cable-Knit Cashmere Cardigan Sweater ($428)

Naadam The Essential Cashmere Sweatpants ($195)

Quince Mongolian Cashmere Crewneck Sweater ($50)

Tweed

A textured twill that's usually made of open-weave wool, tweed often crosses over into plaid territory. It's probably most traditionally associated with blazers, but you can find it in anything from cropped pants to mini dresses and skirts.

Rag & Bone Dylan Tweed Crop Trousers ($375)

Uniqlo x Ines de la Fressange Tweed Jacket ($130)

Reformation Jennie Skirt ($128) and Peggy Cropped Jacket ($278)

Julia Jordan Long Sleeve Tweed Minidress ($129)

Mango Checked Tweed Coat ($200)
