Taylor Swift Is Giving Us Four Unreleased Songs Tonight

Taylor Swift has done it again, folks. On August 28, while accepting her record-breaking third Video of the Year award — and after acknowledging that for the first time, there were four (!!!) women directors in the category — Swift announced that she would be releasing her brand new album Midnights on October 21. It's her first new album since evermore in December 2020, and with the magical feel of fire and Swift's makeup, we are loving the grunge-meets-glitter aesthetic.

With lyrics like "And it's 2 a.m. and I'm cursing your name" in "The Way I Loved You" and "The lingering question kept me up. 2 a.m., who do you love?" in "Enchanted," we knew that this was one concept album that Swift would knock out of the park. She did not disappoint. Not only did the album break all kinds of records but on November 1, Swift also announced that she would be going on "The Eras Tour" across the U.S.

In honor of the Eras Tour kicking off on March 17, Taylor announced that she would be dropping four unreleased songs at midnight! The songs include "Eyes Open" (Taylor's Version)", "Safe & Sound (Taylor's Version)", "If This Was A Movie (Taylor's Version)", and "All Of The Girls You Loved Before," which is an unreleased song from the Lover era that recently went viral on TikTok.

Everything You Need To Know About Taylor Swift's "Midnights"

Are There Any Music Videos?

The video for the album opener, "Lavender Haze," was released on January 27 at midnight and features some seriously beautiful imagery. Check out our theory video here!

The video for "Bejeweled," an updated Cinderella retelling, was released on October 25th.

The music video for "Anti-Hero," which follows two separate Taylors who seem to be against each other, was released on October 21.

What is Midnights about?

Midnights chronicles over a dozen different sleepless nights throughout Taylor's life. Fans speculated whether it would have a toned-down, alternative sound or be a rock album like the one fans are convinced was supposed to drop in 2016. Turns out, it has more of a dreamy, ethereal pop finish that feels like 1989 and reputation's big sister. Once again, Swift masterfully pairs an upbeat, glittery sound with deep and emotional lyrics for an unbeatable combo.

As far as lyrics go, the songs cover the kind of love, heartbreak, and self-loathing that keep Swift (and us) up at night. Our favorite lines so far are "Falling in a dream/Stars by the pocketful" from "Snow on the Beach" and "Draw the cat eye sharp enough to kill a man" from "Vigilante Shit."

"You should find another guiding light, guiding light/But I shine so bright" from "Dear Reader" is another memorable line that reveals how difficult it is for Swift to have so many people looking to her in moments when it feels like her life is falling apart.

How many songs does Midnights have?

Taylor Swift's new album features 13 songs (which also happens to be her lucky number). We finally got the full tracklist on October 7 — or so we thought. After the whole album dropped at midnight on October 21, Swift made a surprise drop of seven extra tracks at 3am!

Does the album Have Any Collabs?

Track 4, "Snow On The Beach," features Lana Del Rey. We're over the moon because this has been a collab that we have wanted for so long! Not only is Del Rey singing but Dylan O'Brien (who starred in All Too Well: The Short Film) plays the drums on the track.

Swift worked with Jack Antonoff to produce Midnights, and wrote songs with Antonoff, Joe Alwyn, and Zoë Kravitz, among others.

What happened during release week?

Taylor Swift had a whole release week schedule full of late night appearances, music video drops, and record + CD drops.

Where can I listen to Midnights?

You can listen to the album on Spotify and Apple Music.

Are there any exclusive editions?

On Taylor Swift's official website, you can get the standard edition of Midnights, as well as three alternate versions. The cool thing is that when you put all four together, the images on the back turn into a clock! You can also buy the Midnights CD clock and vinyl clock displays.

Target is offering a lavender vinyl and deluxe edition CD, the latter of which features three bonus tracks you won't be able to get anywhere else.

What Is "The Eras Tour"?

This is the first time Taylor Swift is going on tour since ending the Reputation tour in 2018. Taylor Swift's newest tour covers all of her "eras, stories, songs, and late nights" together. Not only will fans get to see Swift but her opening acts include names like Paramore, Gracie Abrams, and Phoebe Bridgers. We're freaking out. As Miss Swift herself once said, "Baby let the games begin!"
